Fees for psychological services are determined by the time I schedule and the type of service provided. Unless sessions are longer than usual, my professional fees are as follows:
Fees for psychological testing vary depending on the tests administered and the time involved.
I am a preferred, or in-network, provider with the following companies, or with the behavioral health corporations with whom they contract:
My general policy is that the patient, or the parent of a minor, is responsible for the cost of services I render to you, and payment is due at the time of service unless we agree otherwise. I accept payment by cash or check. If the patient is a child of parents who are divorced, the parent who brings the child for evaluation or treatment will be held responsible for payment of the bill unless there is written authorization from the other parent that they accept financial responsibility.
Many people have health insurance with mental health benefits, and most health insurance plans reimburse at least a portion of mental health services. If you choose to use your insurance, I provide to you the service of billing your insurance company. After I receive payment and an Explanation of Benefits statement from the insurance, I will then bill you for remaining balances that the insurance company does not pay. The fact that you have health insurance, and the fact that I bill your insurance, does not exonerate you from ultimate responsibility for the cost of my services.
Health insurance has become increasingly complex and confusing for all of us. Insurance companies often have different policies and payment structures, even for people who have the same employer, and I have no control over what the insurance company pays. Periodically, it may be necessary to seek approval for more sessions, and your contract with you health insurance company requires that I provide them with certain PHI relevant to the services I provide to you. I will release only the minimum information necessary for the purpose requested. Although all insurance companies claim to keep such information confidential, I have no control over what they do with it. If you choose to have me bill your insurance, you agree that I can provide requested, minimal information to your insurance carrier. However, you have the responsibility of discussing with your insurance company the decisions they make regarding reimbursement.
I am a preferred, or in-network, provider with most of the large insurers in Colorado. Insurance companies sometimes sub-contract their mental health services to other behavioral health care corporations. Because insurance policies, procedures, and contracts change frequently, it is difficult to know definitively what an insurance company will do at a given point in time until a claim has been submitted and considered. Often, payments to in-network providers are not significantly different compared to payments to out-of-networks providers.
Health insurance does not pay for forensic services.
If your account has not been paid for more than 60 days, I have the option of using legal means to secure payment. This may involve using a collection agency or going through small claims court which will require me to disclose otherwise confidential information. If legal action is necessary, the costs of this action will be included in the claim.
Important! You are never obligated to use your insurance, and there are several very good reasons you may prefer a self-pay option, such as increased privacy, confidentiality, choice, and control of your treatment.
