Forensic Psychology is the application of the science and profession of psychology to questions and issues relating to the law and legal system. The purpose of forensic evaluations is to provide reliable, relevant, and useful information to courts, attorneys, and litigants. These services are usually ordered by the court or contracted with attorneys.

Law and psychology was my graduate school minor, and I have been performing evaluations in the aforementioned areas throughout my practice lifetime. I am a candidate for Diplomate in Forensic Psychology (often known as Board Certification) with the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) and Fellow with the American Board of Forensic Psychology (ABFP). I have met both the general and specific education and training requirements of these Boards, and have passed the written examination. Unlike medicine, where most physicians are Board Certified, very few psychologists have Diplomate status. Indeed, at the present time there are only 3 Board Certified Forensic Psychologists in the State of Colorado. The Diplomate/Fellowship designation from the ABPP/ABFP is extremely selective, attests to the highest level of professional competence, and is the only post-doctoral specialty certification recognized by the American Psychological Association. The ABPP Diplomate has been recognized by judicial decisions, regulations, and statutes in some jurisdictions as the standard of professional competence in forensic psychology.
